EAT FOR 5K OR LESS SERIES || SOUTH66 REVIEW

South66 is a bistro and grill house || Jennifer Peters

Hey lovelies, it’s another Eat for 5k or Less post. Who’s excited for this one? Whoop whoop!! I know I’ve been slacking with this series and I’m really sorry about that. Let’s just blame the inconsistency

on life. Well today, I’ll be reviewing South66 located at No. 66 Evo Road, GRA Phase 2. South66 is a bistro and grill house which is one of the few restaurants that popped up early this year. I’ve been admiring this place from afar and I couldn’t wait to visit this new spot.

❋ AMBIENCE

On getting there, I already loved what they did with the exterior of the place and I knew I was going to take some really cool pictures before leaving. I noticed that they had a little sit-down corner before the entrance and I thought it was really nice and cosy. I wasn’t really blown away with the interior of the place because it was a little too dark for my preference. But I think the owner was trying to go with a different kind of vibe with the inside compared to what the outside looked like. So, if you were considering taking pictures inside this place, it might not come out the way you’d expect, except you have a really good camera that works well with low lights. The AC inside was functioning well and it felt really cosy. We were told that they had a courtyard behind, it’s also where the bar is located, so we decided to check that place out. I loved the cut-out wood designed chairs and the colourfully painted walls, so we decided to seat down there to order our meal. But this wasn’t the best choice apparently, because we had some flies as our guest and it really made things uncomfortable while eating. My advice would be to sit inside or rather sit in their modified hut at the entrance. I think those places would be more comfortable than sitting beside the courtyard. ❋ CUSTOMER SERVICE

The Customer service was friendly and the person that served us was patient and nice. My only problem was that the price of the drinks we ordered for changed once we got our bill. This was disappointing because we didn’t expect them to make this kind of mistake, especially not when we had finished eating our food. Imagine if we didn’t have any extra on us since we had planned to pay something different. Thankfully, the difference wasn’t that much so we could pay it. I’d hope that they update their menu in the near future.

❋ FOOD & PRICE

 Here’s a breakdown of what I had which cost N 4,800 in total. That’s less than N5,000.

• South66 Burger————– N 2,800

• Vanilla Milkshake———– N 2,000 The hubby’s meal cost N 3, 900 in total and that’s also less than N 5,000.

• Steak——————————– N 2,500

• Jollof Rice————————- N 600

• Coke——————————— N 300

• Malt——————————— N 500 ♦ SOUTH66 BURGER

This double-decker burger served with bacon was really tasty. It’s by far one of the best burgers I’ve tasted. It’s so filling that I had to take home half of it to continue eating. I would recommend this to anyone who can afford it.

♦ VANILLA MILKSHAKE

This was also very large for me, but I drank every bit of it and enjoyed it as well.

♦ STEAK

I had to taste from the hubby’s plate and the taste reminded me of Suya. It was really nice and not too hard to bite on. On the other hand, I think the size of the stake wasn’t really fair for the price, we thought it would be bigger than what we were served.

♦ JOLLOF RICE

According to the hubby, the rice tasted old and dry (sometimes he can be dramatic though, lol). But personally, I would have liked if it had some veggies in it. It looked too plain and I wasn’t interested in even tasting from his plate Here’s what their menu looked like.

  1. Hi! Thank you for your review and thanks for coming to South 66. We are pleased you enjoyed your meal. The courtyard behind, where you sat, is actually called H&F and is owned and operated by another individual. South 66 runs the indoor restaurant and the thatched terrace in front. I’m really sorry about the mix up with the drinks price. When you sit behind, at H&F, all drinks including milkshakes are sold by H&F. Sometimes our prices and H&F’s vary on certain items. We can only serve our drinks in our own space but we are permitted to serve all food items in H&F’s space. Once again, thank you so much for your review and we look forward to serving you again soon!
