So in today’s post, I’d be sharing some style tips of ways you can know your body type and dress accordingly. Every single one of us has a unique body type or shape that’s

why clothes come in different shapes, sizes and cuts.

I believe the first step in finding your personal style and nailing every outfit effortlessly would be knowing your body type which is essential in finding clothes that flatter you the most.

So today, I’ll be sharing with you the 4 main body types and also give you some guidelines on dressing up for your body.

THE PEAR BODY TYPE

Ladies that have this body type are characterized with a rather narrow shoulder, a smaller bust, well-defined waist and wider lower body aka fuller hips.

♦ GUIDELINES FOR DRESSING A PEAR SHAPE

Your styling goal should be to enhance your waistline and arms by adding volume to your shoulders and upper body for a balanced silhouette. And it’s essential you stay away from clothes that draw attention to your hips and thighs.

• Plunging V-necks in any silhouette

• Cowl necks tops or dresses

The hour glass body shape is what we also call the figure Eight here in Nigeria. You have an hour glass shape if you have;
• A full burst
• A well-narrowed waistline
• Proportionally balanced shoulder and hips
• A curvy body.

Your styling goal should be to pick outfits that would highlight your natural curves and to proportional balance upper and lower body at the same time.

• Tailored tops with ample room in the chest

Ladies that have this body type are characterized with broad shoulders and relatively narrow hips. Fullness around the mid-section and less defined waistline. Also good legs

Your styling goal should be to opt for structured pieces as they will add definition and hide the extra weight. Also, elongate your torso by drawing attention to your leg to create the illusion of a waistline.

♦ THE RECTANGLE BODY TYPE

The Rectangle body type also known as the Athletic shape can be characterised with having an average bust, straight or not so curvy hips and undefined waistline. Your weight is evenly distributed throughout your body.

♦ GUIDELINES FOR DRESSING A RECTANGLE SHAPE

Your styling goal would be to flaunt lean arms and legs and to create the illusion of curves with a defined waistline. Keep the volume on top or bottom. If you go for an oversized top shape, keep the bottom skinny or structured.

• Scoop & round necklines

• Strapless anything!

• Cropped or Elastic waist styles

Everybody has different body types or you can even have a combination of two. Try mixing and matching shapes to find the right fit for you. These dressing guidelines are best used as a starting point and in the end, you’ll be able to find your personal style.
